As we planned our road trip, one of the events I was looking forward to most was the baby shower for my newest grandchild, Corban - he is due to make his arrival in early May. My daughter, Jaime, the  new mommy guest of honor happens to have a couple of uber-talented friends named Summer and Valerie, who couldn't wait to plan a shower. And I happen to have a very generous and talented friend named Brigitte with a beautiful home, so when the guest list grew and the girls got nervous about space, I asked my friend if she would be willing to open up her home to a bunch of strangers and she answered with an enthusiastic *YES!*

The emails started flying back and forth between the four of us, a theme was decided upon, tasks were divided up, lists were made, and a date was set. The following pictures were taken by the only boy allowed in, Summer's cute husband Matt who happens to be a gifted photogragher - I think he captured the day perfectly.

Matt and Summer took Jaime, Jacob (the new daddy) and Murphy (their sweet pup) out one day for a little photo shoot - they then created a beautiful photo book to be signed at the shower by every guest - it was passed around throughout the party and filled with lovely advice, wisdom, and sweet sentiments for this new journey the Lewis family is embarking on....

did you miss me??????

I know it has been a while since you've heard from me. We have been on the road for a few weeks now, heading toward our final destination on the Central Coast of California. We spent some wonderful, relaxing time with our son Dusty and his beautiful wife, Aleah and our precious grandchildren Karise and Dresden in Las Vegas. Dusty will be leaving for his second deployment to Afghanistan in a few days, so our time there was especially meaningful. We also spent time in Escondido, Palm Desert and Huntington Beach  - which is where I am writing this from. In a few days we will be heading north to Arroyo Grande where we will be for the last month or so of our Big Fat Road Trip!

We will be participating in a few fun events once we are there - I will be updating you as these unfold. One of these is a baby shower for my daughter - fun! There's also a Brighten A Corner project, Easter with Judi and Ed at the Dana Powers House in Nipomo and finally, the Remnants of the Past Antique Show at the Dana Powers property on April 24 - Country Living Magazine will be there for a photo shoot too!

a potpourrie before I leave......

In honor of the Winter Olympics, I thought I'd show you an old (and I do mean old) photo of me. Just how old is this photo you ask? Check out my equipment:

Last week, as I was watching Lindsey Vonn being interviewed (after flying down the mountain to claim her gold!) I kept saying to myself, "who does she remind me of?".

Why does she look so familiar to me?

It was driving me crazy.

I have been crazy busy getting ready to leave the attic for a couple of months. We will be participating in the Remnants of the Past Show (April 24 - do NOT miss it!) while we are gone, so I pretty much have to have everything wrapped up before we depart. (though I am bringing all tools and supplies-including my printer just in case) I wanted to share a few more new ideas I've been working on too.....just to whet your appetite!

I've got bunches of these - lots of wonderful characters.

what's new in the attic you ask???

We are busy getting ready to leave on our 2+ month-long road trip.

 We will be down in California for the Remnants of the Past Antique Show and I thought you might like to see what I've been working on to bring down for that very special event.....

This rosary inspiered necklace is made from Robin's egg blue crystal pearls!

I hand "string" and "age" all of these necklaces.

Joie de vivre = Joy of living!

Of course you may remember these from the last Remnants of the past show where they were a hit!

...and I'll have plenty of these of course.

...and I already told you about these.

But I'm not the only one who has been busy......

I call this one The Grainery.....it hangs from that eye screw on top.

I LOVE this stool - Dennis designed this years ago for his job - tools in the bottom *box* - handle on top for easy grabbing.

Some wonderful little cabinets....

This is one of my favorites.

Unfortunately Dennis's marvelous rustic wood creations will not be at Remnants of the Past - we don't have enough room to bring them down on this trip.

 However........

The Vintage Barn Show is right around the corner up here in Idaho! All of these lovelies will be there...

one more thing I will be bringing with me....

You will just have to come to the Barn April 24 to see what I end up doing with all of this....

A set of one large (2" by ¾") and one small tag (1½" by ½") is $42 - any additional small tags are $12.

For instance......my *oma* set with three *grandkids* tags is priced like this:

dog tags

This past fall and Christmas season I worked on another fun project......

My friend Kriste (who also happens to be my sale's rep) has a son who is about to graduate from the US Air Force Academy. (hi Shelby!)

His class was looking for a fund raiser, so Kriste asked me to make a dog tag for moms - cute, huh?!

I can take ZERO credit for these cute little baubles - this is all Kriste - I was merely her hands and feet.

On the front.....

But then I got to thinking.....

What if I made a version of these for ALL moms and grandmas?

Remember the old grandmother rings?

In the 90's I even had a *brats* necklace (always hated that name) - who remembers those?

a new kind of hero...

I have been reading a lot lately about what/how people are helping the people of Haiti - it is on the tip of almost every blogger's pen.
There is one who stands out to me though. Her name is Ree Drummond. You might know her as The Pioneer Woman.

Many bloggers throw cyber-contests, but the PW had the best one yet. She offered to give a $500 donation to 2 (two!!!) different charities - but you had to leave a comment to be entered and mention your favorite charity. She would also donate 10 cents for every comment left to one of the top three charities mentioned in the comments.

 In roughly one day she had over 25,000 (yep - twenty-five THOUSAND) comments. That's over $2,500. She drew the names, and because she couldn't decide which of the top three charities to honor....she donated 2,585 to each!

Also mentioned was a website to go to that rates charities - just in case you didn't have a favorite, you could find out who was doing most effective job. You can go there yourself here.
